Some part of the live games drying up could be attributed to the global economic crisis, but Mintel’s research has unvealed that there is an increasing migration of gamblers from the land-based casinos to online casinos and this is in part to blame for the dilemma of land casinos.

Mintel’s study showed that the overall number of American’s who declared that they visited land-based casino in 2009 is found out to be less than five percent of the earlier year’s figure saying that roughly 27% of players visit casinos at Indian reservations, 24% go to Las Vegas, 12% in Atlantic City and the remaining a mix of locations.

On the other hand, while there is significant  decline in land-based casinos, a rise in the number of patron for online casinos and poker rooms was noted reaching a point where 12% of American population claims to have gone and visited a casino site in the previous year, and this is in spite of the legal impediment brought about by the UIGEA laws in their country.

The report hypothesize that the advancement of HD monitors, video-gaming technology and the general enhancement of internet and the online gambling industry are some of the tempting reasons that a lot of gamblers are migrating from land-based casinos to online gambling.
